Therapeutic Behavioral Services
Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) are intensive, one-to-one services designed to help children and youth and parents/caregivers manage specific behaviors using short-term measurable goals based on the child or youth’s needs. TBS services may be put into place to prevent the child or youth being placed in a higher level of care or to help the child or youth transition from the higher level of care to a less restrictive level of care.
TBS is only available to child or youth with full scope MediCAL under the age of 21 years. It is not a stand-alone service and is provided in conjunction with other specialty behavioral health services.
Referrals for TBS services are received from Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Mental Health Branch, Children and Family Services. More information can be obtained by calling the County at 707-268-2800.
Intensive Home Based Services
Intensive Home Based Services (IHBS) are community based behavioral rehabilitative and support services for children and youth who meet specific criteria. The services are intensive and strength-based, needs-driven intervention activities that support the engagement and participation of the child or youth and his/her significant others to help the child or youth develop skills and achieve the goals and objectives agreed upon.
Children and youth eligible for IHBS must have full scope MediCAL and meet medical necessity criteria for Specialty Mental Health Services. Often these children or youth are being considered for wraparound services, therapeutic foster care, TBS, or other specialty behavioral health services.
Referrals for IHBS services are received from Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Mental Health Branch, Children and Family Services. More information can be obtained by calling the County at 707-268-2800.
